The Humane Society of the U.S. is reporting only some of the extremely gruesome details contained in the indictment of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick on felony dogfighting charges. More info is available from The FanHouse blog, where Michael David Smith reports that the NFL seems more concerned that Vick may have lied to them or may have violated the league's no-gambling rules than they are about the dogfighting. Folks at The FanHouse are also speculating about how long a suspension Vick should receive from the NFL if convicted.
Suspension? What does someone have to do to be banned from pro sports for life, anyway?
UPDATE: If you'd care to write to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell or any of Michael Vick's remaining corporate endorsers to express your views on this situation, A Humane Nation, the blog written by HSUS presdient and CEO Wayne Pacelle, has lots of info and links.

1. I am stunned that the NFL would consider only a suspension if Vick is found guilty of these charges.
What kind of message does that send to our young people who are interested and active in sports?
I am frankly appalled by the NFL's potential leniency in this case. We need to send a strong message that animal abuse of any kind is unacceptable.
Thank you for posting this story.
