This accomplished bass player is definately a "hip" cat. I wish I could attend this sold- out event.

When I saw the fabulous photos taken by astaryth of the Andalusian stallion Ricoo, featured on her journal, Adventures of an Eclectic Mind, it was love at first sight.

Sired by an award winning stud, astaryth describes him as a horse who "doesn't want you to forget it. While he is sweet and gentle, he just radiates attitude" and adds "that he can be a handful at times."

This is a photo of a tabby and white catRecently I received an email which posed a question to which I have often wondered. Am I the only person who while on vacation or away for an extended time, would take a moment out of my day to make a phone call to my kitties? I have to admit that I have been guilty of doing this. Could it be that my friend Donna's cat, Chester is waiting to hear the phone ring?

Of course when I have been out of town, I have called my cat sitter each day to inquire about my kitties. But I think placing an actual phone call to our cats depends on their purrsonality and the nature of our relationship with them.

For example, Donna shares her home with a group of feline friends. She recently sent me several photos oThis is a photo of a tabby and white catf her gang. While looking at them, I could not help but form a scenario about what might prompt her to give them a call.

Missy Toe loves to hang out in high places which could be dangerous. A little reminder to be careful could be considered prudent.

This is a photo of Mischka, police dogDogs have been our special companions since the end of the 18th Century. Not only as faithful friends, they serve us as guide dogs, firehouse dogs, sled dogs, military dogs, police dogs and in many other capacities.

Police officers who choose to partner with a canine develop a deep, trusting and abiding relationship with their dogs. Not just a partner, these canines are considered family members and best friends by their handlers.

Russ Hess, Director of the United States Police Canine Association summarized this special relationship, "If you allow, the career of a K-9 handler will teach you many things about life, about yourself and most of all, about people. You will come away changed forever, for having a dog for a partner cannot leave you without leaving its mark."

Officer Lazaro M. Cabrera, partnered with an incredible canine nationally recognized for his talent. K-9 Mischka everlastingly changed his life. Regretfully, on November 26, 2007, his beloved K-9 passed away, leaving a huge hole not only in Officer Cabrera's and his family's heart, but in those hearts of all who knew K-9 Mischka.

Rocky has received some Western pleasure horse training and now thoroughly enjoys being ridden not only by his owner, but also gives Rosi, aka Damsel4You a delightful turn in the saddle.

Older horses who are generally dependable and sensible are tops in my book. Personally, I prefer them to the younger and more flighty ones.

When I heard about the fatal tiger attack at the San Francisco zoo on Christmas Day, my initial reaction was one of shock and dismay. My second reaction was to wonder what prompted Tatiana's deadly behavior.

Today, these and other provocative questions are being asked in a new light. With the discovery of blood,and an unidentified shoe print found on the rail of her enclosure, authorities now suspect the victims may have taunted and possibly entered the tiger's exhibit area. The staff entry into the enclosure remained secure and was ruled out as the tiger's possible escape route.

Wild animals, no matter whether born in captivity or captured in their natural habitat, will always carry the potential to be dangerous to humans. Surely, we as caretakers must provide for their welfare, by respecting their predatory nature. And, if we are to balance the needs of endangered species with our longing to observe them, we should all be asking these questions and be willing to assume a measure of responsibility for this tragedy. As zoos create natural exhibits which draw us into the animal's world more intimately, how do we walk that fine line and resist the temptation to view them as pets?

Perhaps, if we are willing to respect this distinction, a family would not be grieving the loss of their beloved son, and the wildlife community would not be mourning the needless destruction of the magnificent Siberian Tiger known as Tatiana.

Mr. Tigger, who owns Rosi, aka M00NLTSNTA, appears to be slowly blending into the blanket pattern.

Cheshire cats disappear quick as a flash, but Mr. Tigger seems to have chosen to purposefully transform into a chameleon kitty.

In all my years of living with cats, I have never seen this behavior.
